Coaches replace late night trains on the Bendigo Line

Bendigo line

Due to V/Line maintenance works, coaches replace some late night Bendigo Line trains for the entire journey on Sunday 22 February.

From Southern Cross Station:
The 10.51pm and 11.51pm Southern Cross to Bendigo services will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.

Please allow an additional 40 minutes’ travel time for your journey.

Coaches replace Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill line trains

23 Feb - 8 Mar 2026

Bendigo line

Due to V/Line annual maintenance works, coaches replace Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill Line trains for the entire journey from Monday 23 February to Sunday 8 March.

Coaches will replace all trains between Southern Cross, Bendigo, Echuca and Swan Hill.

Passengers travelling to and from Huntly Station:
Please be advised that V/Line coach replacements will arrive and depart from the coach stop outside of Huntly IGA at 4/619 Midland Hwy, Huntly VIC 3551.

Good Charlotte Motel Du Cap Tour - additional services

21 Feb 2026

Bendigo line

Special trains will run on the Bendigo Line to help get you home from the Good Charlotte - Motel Du Cap Tour at Bendigo Racecourse on Saturday 21 February. 

After the concert 
Additional train departs Bendigo at 10.50pm. This train will stop at Kangaroo Flat, Castlemaine, Malmsbury, Kyneton, Woodend, Macedon, Gisborne, Riddles Creek, Clarkefield, Sunbury, Footscray, arriving at Southern Cross at 12.51am.

Additional train departs Bendigo at 11.32pm. This train will stop at Kangaroo Flat, Castlemaine, Malmsbury, Kyneton, Woodend, Macedon, Gisborne, Riddles Creek, Clarkefield, Sunbury, Footscray, arriving at Southern Cross at 1.39am.

 

Midland Highway bridge works

23 Feb - 7 Mar 2026

Bendigo line

V/Line crews will carry out bridge maintenance and upgrade works in Castlemaine from Monday 23 February to Saturday 7 March. 

What we are doing

V/Line will carry out water proofing works on the historic Midland Highway bridge in Castlemaine. These works will ensure the bridge continues to provide a vital connection for passengers on the Bendigo Line.

Works will take place around the clock from Monday 23 February to Saturday 7 March.

Traffic impacts

To safely complete these works, our crews require unlimited access to the bridge while V/Line trains are not running.

The Midland Highway bridge underpass will remain open to motorists and pedestrians during this time. 

Speed restrictions will be in place and localised traffic management will be used to hold traffic as required. Please allow extra time when moving through the area.

What to be aware of 

There will be regular movement of heavy machinery and trucks, and a significant amount of dust is expected at the work site.

There will also be a high level of construction noise at some times.

Track maintenance works in Elphinstone

20 Feb - 12 Mar 2026

Bendigo line

V/Line is carrying out ballast renewal works in Elphinstone from Friday 20 February to Thursday 12 March. 

Works will take place on weekdays between 7am and 6pm. Crews will use land adjacent to Urquhart Street level crossing as the lay-down area.

Due to the nature of these works, there will be constructions noise, additional lighting and dust present at times.

Night works on the Bendigo Line

23 Feb - 3 Mar 2026

Bendigo line

V/Line is carrying out track maintenance works between Carlsruhe and Kyneton from Monday 23 February to Tuesday 3 March.

Works will take place each day between 7am and 5pm, and at night between 8pm and 5am.

Due to the nature of these works, there will be construction noise, additional lighting and dust present at times.

Due to V/Line maintenance works, coaches replace evening trains on the Geelong Line from Sunday 15 to Tuesday 17 February.


Sunday 15 February  

From Southern Cross Station:
From 9pm to last service – coaches replace trains from Southern Cross to Waurn Ponds for the entire journey.
 
From Waurn Ponds:
From 9pm to last service – coaches replace trains from Waurn Ponds to Southern Cross for the entire journey.
 
Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 February

From Southern Cross Station:
From 9pm to last service – coaches replace trains from Waurn Ponds to Southern Cross for the entire journey.

From Waurn Ponds:
From 8pm to last service – coaches replace trains from Waurn Ponds to Southern Cross for the entire journey.


All train services will be replaced by a mix of express and stopping all stations coach services, for more information, please see a V/Line staff member.

Due to maintenance and renewal works on the metropolitan network, coaches replace evening Traralgon and Bairnsdale line trains for part of the journey on Sunday 8 February to Wednesday 11 February.
 
Sunday 8 February

From Southern Cross Station:
From 9pm to last service – coaches will replace trains from Southern Cross to East Pakenham. Trains will run from East Pakenham to Traralgon.

From Traralgon:
From 7pm to last service – trains will terminate at East Pakenham. Coaches will replace trains from East Pakenham to Southern Cross.
 
 
Monday 9 February to Wednesday 11 February

From Southern Cross Station:
From 9pm to last service – coaches will replace trains from Southern Cross to East Pakenham. Trains will run from East Pakenham to Traralgon.

From Traralgon:
From 7pm to last service – trains will terminate at East Pakenham. Coaches will replace trains from East Pakenham to Southern Cross.

From Bairnsdale:
The 6.10pm Bairnsdale to Southern Cross service will terminate at East Pakenham. Coaches will run from East Pakenham to Southern Cross.
 
 
Coaches will not stop at Flinders Street, Richmond, Clayton or Berwick stations.

Please allow an additional 60 minutes’ travel time for your journey.

Service changes on the Bairnsdale Line

8 Feb - 31 Mar 2026

Bairnsdale Line
 
Due to track upgrade works, temporary speed restrictions will be in place on a section of the Bairnsdale Line from Sunday 8 February to Tuesday 31 March.

During this time, trains will run at slower than normal speeds between Bairnsdale and Rosedale to allow the tracks to bed down.

Trains to the city

All trains to the city will depart up to 6 minutes earlier from Bairnsdale, Stratford, Sale and Rosedale stations.

Please note that on Monday 9 March, trains will run to a Saturday timetable for the Labour Day public holiday.

The 9.43pm service to Seymour will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.

From Seymour:
The 8.27pm service to Southern Cross will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.
 
Monday 9 to Wednesday 11 February

From Southern Cross Station:
The 9.43pm service to Seymour will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.
 
From Seymour:
The 9.56pm service to Southern Cross will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.

Replacement coaches will be a mix of express and stopping all stations services.
Coaches will not stop at Essendon Station.

Due to Inland Rail works, coaches replace Seymour and Shepparton line trains from Friday night 27 February to Monday 2 March.

From Southern Cross:
From 9.30pm to last service - coaches will replace trains from Southern Cross to Seymour.
 
From Seymour:
From 7.30pm to last service – coaches will replace trains from Seymour to Southern Cross.


Saturday 28 February to Monday 2 March

Coaches replace all trains between Southern Cross, Seymour and Shepparton.

Coaches replace train on the Albury Line

Due to Australian Rail Track Corporation works on the Albury Line, coaches will replace trains for the entire journey between Southern Cross and Albury on Saturday 28 February and Sunday 1 March.
 
Coaches will depart earlier than usual train times, so please plan ahead and check the temporary timetable before you travel.
