Coaches replace evening trains on the Bendigo Line

Bendigo line

Due to V/Line maintenance works, coaches replace evening trains on the Bendigo Line for the entire journey from Sunday 25 January to Tuesday 27 January.

Sunday 25 January

From Southern Cross Station:
From 8.30pm to last service – coaches replace trains to Bendigo for the entire journey.
 
From Bendigo:
From 8.00pm to last service – coaches replace trains to Southern Cross for the entire journey.

Monday 26 January (Australia Day public holiday)

From Southern Cross Station:
From 8pm to last service – coaches replace trains to Bendigo for the entire journey.
 
From Bendigo:
From 6pm to last service – coaches replace trains to Southern Cross for the entire journey.

All V/Line trains will run to a Saturday timetable for the Australia Day public holiday, except for the Swan Hill Line which will run to a Sunday timetable.
 
Tuesday 27 January

From Southern Cross Station:
From 8pm to last service – coaches replace trains to Bendigo/Epsom/Eaglehawk for the entire journey.
 
From Epsom:
The 7.32pm Epsom to Southern Cross service will run as a train to Bendigo, and coaches from Bendigo to Southern Cross.

From Bendigo:
From 7.45pm to last service – coaches replace trains to Southern Cross for the entire journey.

Service changes on the Geelong Line

Geelong line

Due to West Tarneit Station works, there will be service changes on the Geelong Line until Friday 23 January.

Geelong Line trains will run between Waurn Ponds and Wyndham Vale only. Alternative services will be in place between Wyndham Vale and Southern Cross.

Service changes on the Warrnambool Line

Due to West Tarneit Station works, coaches replace trains for part of the journey on the Warrnambool Line from Sunday 11 January to Friday 23 January.

Travel to and from the city

To Southern Cross
Catch a train to Waurn Ponds, then an express coach to Southern Cross.

From Southern Cross
Catch an express coach from Southern Cross to Waurn Ponds, then a train to Warrnambool.

Coaches will not stop at Footscray Station.

From Footscray
First catch a Metro Train to Southern Cross, then catch a V/Line replacement coach to Waurn Ponds, then catch a train to Warrnambool.

Travel to Marshall, South Geelong, Geelong, North Geelong, North Shore, Corio, Lara, Little River and Wyndham Vale stations

Catch a Warrnambool Line train to Waurn Ponds, then catch a Geelong Line train to stations between Marshall and Wyndham Vale.

Travel to Tarneit, Deer Park and Sunshine

Travel on a Warrnambool Line train to Waurn Ponds, then catch a Geelong Line train to Wyndham Vale,  then catch a replacement bus to Tarneit, Deer Park or Sunshine.

Please note - bikes are not allowed on bus replacement services running between Wyndham Vale and Sunshine.

Service changes on the Warrnambool Line

31 Jan 2026

Due to the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, some Warrnambool Line trains will have service changes on Saturday 31 January.

To Southern Cross:  
The 5.27pm Warrnambool to Southern Cross train will be replaced by coaches from Warrnambool to Waurn Ponds.

Passengers travelling through to Southern Cross can transfer to a train at Waurn Ponds Station.

From Southern Cross:
The 1.10pm Southern Cross to Warrnambool train will terminate at Waurn Ponds. Coaches will run between Waurn Ponds and Warrnambool.

Note that Warrnambool Line trains will run as normal on Sunday 1 February.

Due to V/Line maintenance works, coaches replace evening Traralgon and Bairnsdale line trains for the entire journey from Sunday 18 January to Wednesday 21 January.

From Southern Cross Station:
From 8:30pm to last service – coaches will replace trains from Southern Cross to Traralgon.

From Traralgon:
From 7pm to last service – coaches will replace trains from Traralgon to Southern Cross.

 
Monday 19 January to Wednesday 21 January

From Southern Cross Station:
From 8pm to last service – coaches will replace trains from Southern Cross to Traralgon.

From Traralgon:
The 6:30pm to last service – coaches will replace trains from Traralgon to Southern Cross.

From Bairnsdale:
The 6.05 pm Bairnsdale service to Southern Cross will terminate at Traralgon. Coaches will run from Traralgon to Southern Cross.
 
 
 
Coaches will not stop at Flinders Street, Richmond, Clayton or Berwick stations.

Due to V/Line maintenance work, coaches replace evening trains on the Seymour Line for the entire journey from Sunday 11 to Wednesday 14 January.

Sunday 11 January

From Southern Cross Station:
The 9.45pm service to Seymour will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.

From Seymour:
The 8.27pm service to Southern Cross will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.
 
Monday 12 to Wednesday 14 January

From Southern Cross Station:
The 9.43pm service to Seymour will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.
 
From Seymour:
The 9.53pm service to Southern Cross will be replaced by coaches for the entire journey.

Replacement coaches will be a mix of express and stopping all stations services.
Coaches will not stop at Essendon Station.

Ongoing Service Changes Due to Bushfires

9 Jan - 12 Jan 2026

Monday, 12 January

V/Line services on the Bendigo, Swan Hill and Echuca lines will continue to be significantly impacted as crews assess and repair damage from bushfires in Victoria’s north.

No trains will run on the Bendigo, Swan Hill and Echuca lines on Monday 12 January and passengers are advised to avoid unnecessary travel.

A limited coach replacement service will operate between Sunbury and Castlemaine on the Bendigo Line. Passengers are advised to catch a Metro Trains service between Sunbury and the city. Due to a planned works on the metropolitan network services after 8pm will operate to Southern Cross.

On the Swan Hill Line a limited number of replacement coaches will run between Swan Hill and Southern Cross, stopping at Kerang and Pyramid only, then running express to Southern Cross.

Trains will remain suspended on the Echuca Line, with replacement coaches not available.

Scheduled coaches connecting to stations on these lines that are still operating will not connect to a train or replacement service. Select coach services may be cancelled at short notice or may not service select stops due to road closures or emergency services requests.

Coach replacement services are unable to be sourced for Bendigo and Echuca passengers tomorrow due to uncertain road conditions and coach and driver availability.

Bendigo Line: 

Trains will remain suspended. A limited number of coach replacements will run between Castlemaine and Sunbury.

To Southern Cross – Coaches depart Castlemaine at 5:30am, 6:00am, 6:30am, 7:00am, 7:30am, 8:00am, 8:30am and 9:00am and then hourly from 9:30am stopping Malmsbury, Kyneton, Woodend, Macedon, Gisborne, Riddells Creek, Clarkefield and then Sunbury, where passengers can board next departing Metro services towards the city.

The 8:30pm service, and all remaining services towards Southern Cross in the evening will continue through to Southern Cross due to planned works on the Sunbury line.

From Southern Cross – Passengers need to board Metro service to Sunbury, where coaches will depart hourly from 06:45am until 3:00pm where services will depart at 3:15pm, 3:45pm, 4:15pm, 4:45pm, 5:15pm, 5:45pm, 6:15pm, 6:45pm, 7:15pm and 7:45pm stopping Clarkefield, Riddells Creek, Gisborne, Macedon, Woodend, Kyneton, Malmsbury and Castlemaine.

From 8:45pm, services will depart hourly, from Southern Cross station rather than Sunbury due to planned works on the Sunbury line.

Echuca: 

Trains will remain suspended. Coach replacements will not be available.

Swan Hill: 

A limited number of replacement coaches will run between Swan Hill and Southern Cross, stopping at Kerang and Pyramid only then running express to Southern Cross.

To Southern Cross:
Coaches depart Swan Hill at 6.55pm, stopping at Kerang at 7.41am and Pyramid at 8.27am, arriving at Southern Cross at 11.22am.

Coaches depart Swan Hill at 1:35pm, stopping at Kerang 2.23pm and Pyramid at 3.09pm, arriving at Southern Cross at 7.45pm.

From Southern Cross:
Coaches depart Southern Cross at 7.40am, stopping at Pyramid at 11.54am and Kerang at 12.40am, arriving at Swan Hill at 1.25pm.

Coaches depart Southern Cross at 6.43pm, stopping at Pyramid at 11.00pm and Kerang at 11.46pm, arriving at Swan Hill at 12.30am.

 
COACH IMPACTS 

The following coach services will not run on Monday, 12 January:

• 08:58 Alexandra to Seymour Station
• 16:13 Seymour Station to Alexandra
• 08:30 Warrnambool Station to Apollo Bay
• 13:20 Apollo Bay to Warrnambool Station

The following coach services will not service Westmere, Streatham, Skipton, Linton, Scarsdale and Smythesdale on Monday, 12 January:

• The 06:35 Hamilton - Ballarat Station
• The 10:11 Ballarat Station - Hamilton 

The following coach services will run as an express service (servicing only Mansfield and Southern Cross) on Monday, 12 January, following a detour due to ongoing road closures between Melbourne and Mansfield.

• The 07:30 Mansfield to Melbourne service via Flowerdale
• The 08:30 Melbourne SCS to Mansfield service
• The 13:15 Mansfield to Melbourne SCS
• The 18:01 Melbourne Southern Cross to Mansfield via Flowerdale
