As the commercial centre of Philip Island, Cowes maintains a distinct seaside vibe while providing an abundance of cafes, restaurants and shopping destinations.

Escape from the summer heat by taking a stroll along the foreshore, or meet some new friends at the Phillip Island Nature Park’s most popular attraction – The Penguin Parade.

If racing cars are more your thing, visit Cowes during race times and experience the Superbike World Championships and the Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix. If you prefer to be a part of the action, the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit Visitor Centre is open daily with guided circuit tours available between 11am-2pm daily.

Getting there

Phillip Island is accessible by V/Line train and coach. To get to Cowes, visitors can take a metro train from Melbourne to Dandenong, then transfer to a V/Line coach to Cowes. Alternatively, catch a V/Line coach from Melbourne to Koo Wee Rup, then board a connecting bus to Cowes. Once on the island, visitors can explore by foot, bike, or hire a car to drive to various sights. The trip takes 2.5 – 3.5 hours.
