Due to the forecast temperatures, we will be running to an Extreme Heat timetable on Wednesday, 7 January and Thursday, 08 January.

Extreme heat timetables have been updated effective 1 December 2025.

Due to the forecast temperatures, we will be running to an Extreme Heat timetable on the following dates and lines:

Thursday, 8 January: Full Extreme Heat timetable on the  Ballarat, Ararat, Maryborough, Bendigo, Swan Hill, Echuca, Seymour and Shepparton lines.

Important message for Swan Hill Line passengers - coaches will replace trains between Swan Hill and Bendigo from Wednesday 7 January to Friday 9 January. To plan your journey, view the Swan Hill extreme heat timetable. Coaches will depart stations at or soon after scheduled train times. Please allow extra time for your journey.

During the summer months, parts of V/Line’s network can be subject to extremely hot temperatures and we take extra precautions to make sure our train services run safely.

Trains that usually travel at up to 160km/h need to slow down to 90km/h or less because steel tracks expand in the heat.

On these days, affected lines will run to an Extreme Heat Timetable. This means journey times may be extended and some services will be replaced by air-conditioned coaches for all or part of the journey.

Decisions regarding extreme heat speed restrictions for the Albury Line are managed by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC). Any delays will be communicated via the V/Line website and mobile app.
