Extreme Heat Timetable
Due to the forecast temperatures, we will be running to an Extreme Heat Timetable on Friday 30 January and Saturday 31 January.

Extreme heat timetables have been updated effective 1 December 2025.

Due to the forecast temperatures, we will be running to an Extreme Heat timetable on the following dates and lines:

Friday, 30 January: Extreme Heat timetable on the Ballarat, Ararat, Maryborough, Bendigo,  Echuca, and Swan Hill lines, and a Partial Extreme Heat timetable on the Seymour and Shepparton lines.
Due to the forecast high temperatures in the region, coaches will replace trains between Bendigo and Swan Hill on Friday, 30 January.

Saturday, 31 January: Partial Extreme Heat timetable on the Bendigo, Echuca, Swan Hill, Seymour and Shepparton lines.
Due to the forecast high temperatures in the region, coaches will replace trains between Bendigo and Swan Hill on Saturday, 31 January for the below services:

  • The 13:35 Swan Hill - Southern Cross service.
  • The 18:43 Southern Cross - Swan Hill service.

During the summer months, parts of V/Line’s network can be subject to extremely hot temperatures and we take extra precautions to make sure our train services run safely.

Trains that usually travel at up to 160km/h need to slow down to 90km/h or less because steel tracks expand in the heat.

On these days, affected lines will run to an Extreme Heat Timetable. This means journey times may be extended and some services will be replaced by air-conditioned coaches for all or part of the journey.

Decisions regarding extreme heat speed restrictions for the Albury Line are managed by the Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC). Any delays will be communicated via the V/Line website and mobile app.
