When we can get you there
If you want to see times for all services, you can download timetables. If you want to find a specific time, you can also use Plan your Journey on our homepage.

How you’ll get there
We operate three types of train:

See our fleet for more details.

And our V/Line coaches are air-conditioned and toilet-equipped.  It is compulsory to wear seat belts when travelling on our coach services.

Fares and tickets
We have a range of great value fares. Travelling at off peak times is cheapest and we have discounts for commuters, families, groups and holders of certain concession cards.

Victoria’s smartcard ticketing system – myki – is your ticket to travel  V/Line commuter line trains between Melbourne and Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo, Seymour and Traralgon. See myki page for full information. For travel on our long distance trains and coaches you need a V/Line paper ticket.

You can buy tickets at all staffed V/Line stations, most Metro premium stations and at any V/Line ticket sales agent. See where to buy tickets for full details.

See fares & tickets for more information.

On board
All V/Line trains have a conductor who’ll be happy to help you with any enquiries.  Every train has toilets, air conditioning and water fountains.

Our coach services also have air conditioning and toilets, though toilets may not be available on some train replacement coaches.

If you’re travelling on a reserved train to Bairnsdale, Swan Hill, Shepparton or Warrnambool you can buy snacks and drinks onboard. See onboard food and drinks to view the menu and special offers.

Metropolitan Melbourne
If you’re travelling to Melbourne, you can use metropolitan trains, trams and buses at no extra cost. Just use your myki (touch on and touch off) or show your V/Line paper ticket to ticket barrier staff or your bus driver. See included metropolitan travel for more info.

Use the PTV website to plan travel on all metropolitan public transport, including Metro Trains, Yarra Trams and metropolitan buses.

Travel tips
See Your journey for information on baggage allowance, travelling with animals and carriage of bikes.

When approaching your destination station, please make sure you are ready to get off the train. The train won't wait long at a station, so if you are not ready you may miss your stop.

We also have special information for seniors, passengers travelling with children and accessibility for wheelchair users.
