What you can take - Luggage

Checked luggage will only be allowed on locomotive hauled long distance services. When travelling short journeys passengers now have the flexibility to be able to transfer their own luggage to the train. Luggage must be checked in at least 30 minutes before you leave.

All items must be properly packed or they will not be accepted. You can only carry bicycles, surfboards etc, on nominated train and coach services where space permits. Call us on 136 196 before you travel to check your service.

Maximum weight/pieces

Each passenger can carry two pieces of luggage (each not exceeding 20kg in weight and 180cm in size) plus one piece of hand luggage.

Packing guide & Luggage tags

Luggage should be contained in a suitcase, travel bag, backpack or suit pack. Luggage packed in cardboard, polystyrene containers, plastic bags, wooden boxes or tea chests will not be accepted. It goes without saying, but please ensure that your luggage is strong enough to hold its contents!

A luggage tag with your name, contact details, destination and date of travel should be securely attached to your luggage. Please remove all previous luggage tags.

Valuables & Medication

Passengers are advised to carry personal medication, keys and valuables in their hand luggage.
