V/Line has completed more than $46 million in improvement works on the Bendigo, Swan Hill and Echuca lines.
The project has been one of the largest packages of works for V/Line, with more than 220,000 hours of work completed throughout a four-week period.
More than 1500 V/Line staff and contractors worked around the clock to complete the works safely and on time.
They replaced approximately 38,000 sleepers and 25,000 tonnes of ballast along the 300-kilometre section of track from Sunbury to Swan Hill.
Crews carried out renewal works on nine rail bridges, including replacing the deck on the Taradale viaduct and waterproofing the Malmsbury viaduct and the Forest Creek bridge in Castlemaine.
Other important works included repairing the roof at Woodend Station, removing mud holes between Eaglehawk and Dingee, signalling works on the Bendigo line and upgrades to the pedestrian subway at Macedon Station.
With trains resuming along the lines after four weeks, motorists and pedestrians are reminded to be safe and vigilant around the tracks.
V/Line is committed to improving services, and we thank customers and residents for their patience while we completed the works.
