Published: Wed 14 Sep 2016
Rochelle Lacson is the newest signal maintenance cadet to join V/Line as part of the Level Crossing Removal Authority Rail Industry Program and is celebrating this year’s Rail Careers Week.
A former internationally stationed electrical network engineer, Rochelle said she was excited to join V/Line and grow her career in rail.
“I believe that with my background in network development, I can contribute to V/Line’s future while developing my own here in Victoria,” Rochelle said.
The program gives cadets the opportunity to gain experience in a field of their choice.
Rochelle will complete six rotations with different Victorian rail operators, starting at V/Line.
“It is great to learn the fundamentals of the Victorian rail network. I recently tested the V/Line simulator and competed in a team pit stop wheel change challenge at Metro,” she said.
Upon completion of the program, Rochelle will join the V/Line Asset Management team as a Signal Maintenance Technician.
Rochelle said she found the transition from the electrical industry to public transport interesting and is looking forward to meeting more employees.
“I have received the warmest welcome from staff at V/Line and I’ve had great support so far,” she said.
“This Rail Careers Week, I want to encourage everyone to explore their options in rail. You might be surprised where it takes you.”
