Major works package on the Gippsland line
Published: Mon 20 Jun 2016
V/Line completed more than $2.5 million in improvement works on the Gippsland line this month.
Crews worked on several projects along the section of track from Traralgon to Bairnsdale for six days after the Queen’s Birthday public holiday.
Maintenance work was also carried out along the line between Bunyip and Traralgon on Saturday 18 June and Sunday 19 June.
The Avon River rail bridge in Stratford received repairs as part of this package of works, including the replacement of timber beams and piers.
Sections of track and thousands of sleepers were replaced between Bunyip and Traralgon, and mud holes were removed.
Crews also completed vegetation control, including trimming trees and grass in the rail reserve.
Around 150 V/Line staff and contractors worked on the project across the six days.
V/Line thanks customers and residents for their patience and understanding while we completed these important works.
