Don’t push your x-ing luck

The safety of customers, pedestrians and road users is V/Line’s number one priority, so this festive season please take care around the tracks.
Trains can come from either direction at any time and it’s everyone’s responsibility to be vigilant.
Always use designated rail crossings or paths to cross the tracks, pedestrians can be fined up to $379 for crossing the tracks away from a designated crossing.
Never cross the tracks when boom gates are down, lights are flashing or bells are ringing - and only enter a level crossing with enough space for your vehicle to stop clear of the tracks.
Drivers can be fined $758 and lose four demerit points for illegally entering a level crossing while boom gates are down, lights are flashing, bells are ringing or a train is visible.
But the maximum penalty is putting yourself in harm’s way. Between you and a train - you will come off second best. It just isn’t worth the risk.
Stay safe this holiday season and don’t push your x-ing luck.
