Level Crossings – Safety Campaigns
V/Line
is pleased to support “National Rail Safety Week” from the 23 – 29 August 2010.
This year, National
Rail Safety Week will focus on increasing awareness of motorists, pedestrians
and truck drivers about risks associated with level crossings.
Established in 2006, National Rail Safety Week strives to increase
positive behavior around level.
V/Line
strongly encourages all motorists and pedestrians to always assume a train is
on the line and to treat level crossings with the same respect afforded any
other intersection.
- When
the gates are closed that means a train is coming - never jump the fence,
gate or barrier. And remember, playing on or near the railways
tracks may mean a fine for trespassing.
- Pedestrians
are also reminded to be vigilant. People should never take shortcuts
and only cross railway tracks at pedestrian crossings.
