Regional Network & Access – Introduction
From 4 May 2007, the Regional Network and Access
(RNA) division of V/Line Passenger Pty Ltd (“V/Line”) is the
main rail infrastructure provider in regional Victoria. It is responsible for
the provision of access to freight and passenger train operators.
VicTrack, a Victorian government body, owns most of
the Victorian rail infrastructure other than facilities located on
privately-owned land. VicTrack leases most of the Victorian rail network to
the Director of Public Transport (“Director”), in the Victorian Department
of Infrastructure. V/Line leases land and rail infrastructure from the
Director under the Regional Infrastructure Lease.
The network includes the regional broad gauge lines
to

Geelong and Warrnambool
·
Ballarat, Ararat and
Mildura/Merbein
·
Kulwin
·
Robinvale
·
Bendigo and Swan Hill/Piangil
·
Echuca, Moulamein
(partially open) and Deniliquin
·
Seymour and Shepparton/Tocumwal
·
Traralgon and
Bairnsdale
·
Some freight lines
within metropolitan Melbourne
The network also includes standard gauge lines to
Hopetoun and Yaapeet.

Other Victorian
rail infrastructure includes:

the standard gauge
corridor between Serviceton on the Victoria/South Australia border and the
south side of the Murray River on the NSW/Victoria border via Melbourne which
