Nearly 600 regional Victorian footballers are putting final touches on preparations for the V/Line Cup, the elite under 15s competition for junior Victorian Country Football League (VCFL) footballers.
The sixth V/Line Cup will be launched tomorrow night with a practice match between last year’s grand finalists Ballarat and Geelong at Learmonth Oval near Ballarat.
With the annual tournament less than a fortnight away, all teams are looking to last year’s premiers, Ballarat, as the team to beat.
V/Line CEO, Rob Barnett, wishes all junior footballers the best.
“I wish all players the best of luck for this year’s competition,” Mr Barnett said.
“The quality of football on display gets better each year so I’m sure we’ll see some exciting footy played.
“V/Line is especially proud to put its support behind junior football with programs such as the V/Line Cup, Junior Carnivals, Umpire Development Program and the Umpire Academy.”
VCFL CEO, Glenn Scott, said V/Line’s involvement had been invaluable since the partnership began.
“V/Line is committed to growing with the league and with Victorian communities,” Mr Scott said.
“Their sponsorship further strengthens our junior program.”
The V/Line Cup will take place over three days, at grounds around Melbourne, from Monday 29 June to Wednesday 1 July.
For the second year the competition will also feature a Victorian Aboriginal Youth Sport and Recreation Co-op (VAYSAR) representative side.
