Help: Plan your journey & Buy tickets online
Plan your journey and Buy tickets online work in similar ways.

The main difference is you can buy commuter tickets (weekly, monthly and date-to-date) faster by using Buy tickets.


Search
Enter where you're travelling from and to (as you type, a list of matching stations will appear).

Choose the date(s) of travel, number of passenger(s)

Click Get Times (or Buy tickets).

      Tip: click blue links to see definitions.


Select
Note: This step is not applicable if you're buying commuter tickets (weekly, monthly or date-to-date) as these ticket types are valid on all services.

A new window will open showing available services. 

Select the service(s) you want to travel on by clicking the radio button in the select column:

  (Note: if there is only one service, it will be selected for you automatically)

 


Click Calculate your fare


Fare
The total fare for the number of passengers chosen is displayed.

You can change the number of passengers or the ticket type, if you'd like to compare prices.

If you want a fare breakdown, click + Expand in the Fare breakdown (per passenger) section.

Click Next >


Ticket deliveryIf you're in Australia and there's enough time to post your tickets to you, choose how you'd like to receive/collect your tickets.

If you're not in Australia, follow the instructions on screen to continue (you'll need two different email addresses and will need to collect your tickets when you arrive in Australia).

Click Next >


Passengers
Provide your details and the details of the passenger(s), if different.  (Save time by using the 'Copy name' function, if you're buying for yourself).

Complete all required fields - marked with an *

Click Next >


ReviewCheck the details of your order before paying.  If you need to alter your contact details, click 'Edit'.

Click Buy >


PayYou'll be directed to our secure online payment gateway - Cardgate.

Payment is secured using 128bit 'Extended validation' security for your peace of mind.  Your credit card number is never known or stored by V/Line.

Enter your name (as shown on your card), credit card number and expiry date.

If you see an error message, follow the instructions on screen.  (Note: if you enter the wrong expiry date, this is shown as

Click Pay


ConfirmationYou should now see a confirmation page, with your purchase reference number e.g. 5878260.

We'll email a confirmation to the email address provided, so there's no need to print this page.
