What can I calculate?
This calculator is for rail journeys only.
You can calculate all types of fares (including weekly, monthly and
date-to-date) between any two railway stations on the V/Line network.

How to use the Rail Fare
Calculator
When you click the Rail Fare Calculator (new window)
you will see this screen:
Step-by-step instructions
Choose which station you want to travel from and to using the
drop-down boxes by clicking the drop-down arrow.
Simple
fare search
Once you have chosen your origin and destination, you can then click the top
‘Calculate’ button (highlighted below) to see the range of fares between those
two stations:
You will
then see a range of fares displayed:
If you’re
unsure of any of the terminology used in the fare table, click on the bold,
underlined links, which will open a new page with an explanation.
More options
If you are after a specific fare or a quote for more than one person, you can use
the ‘More options’ section.
Choose
your origin and destination, as shown above.
Now specify
how many and what type of tickets you’d like to buy.
If you’re unsure of any of the terminology used, click on the bold, underlined
links, which will open a new page with an explanation.
Notes:
Some questions may appear or disappear based on
options you’ve chosen.
You cannot purchase First Class Weekly, Monthly or Date-to-Date tickets, so if
you choose one of these options, other option(s) will become disabled
(i.e. “grey out”)
Press the lower
Calculate button, under the ‘Peak?’ options.
When you
go to the results page, you will be presented with the cost of the ticket per
passenger and the total cost.
You can change
any of the options then ‘Re-calculate’ a new fare.
I need a coach or rail +
coach fare
These are
not as simple to calculate, as you need to specify what services you are travelling
on before we can give you a fare.
To
calculate these fares, please do the following:

Read the Plan your Journey help page (new window)

Now visit the Homepage and, in the ‘Plan Your
Journey’ tile:
o
choose where
you want to travel from and to
o
choose your
travel dates
o
choose which
service(s) you want to travel on
o
click the
‘Calculate your fare’ button at the bottom of the screen
o
click ‘Buy
tickets’ to see information on where to buy tickets.
