CountryLink XPT train services, Albury <> Melbourne

Road coaches are replacing V/Line train services between Seymour and Albury/Wodonga until the completion of major rail upgrade works.

TRAVEL UPDATE ISSUED AUGUST 2010:  Please note that the works are also temporarily affecting CountryLink’s XPT service which will be served by road coaches south of Albury until further notice.  Please visit the CountryLink website (new window) for details of the service alterations.

When XPT services return to normal operation, V/Line customers will have access to economy class seats on two daily XPT train services in each direction, at V/Line ticket prices.

Departure times


From Melbourne

Departs Melbourne daily 08:30 and 19:55 - stops at Benalla, Wangaratta and Albury

To Melbourne

Departs Albury daily at 04:12 and 15:19 - stops at Wangaratta, Benalla and Melbourne

Other information

Tickets at V/Line prices cannot be purchased on the train or through CountryLink.

Customers wishing to travel beyond Albury (e.g. to/from Sydney) should purchase a standard CountryLink ticket - see the CountryLink website (new window).

V/Line’s train service will return to normal on completion of the track upgrade works program in 2010.

As per the advice on the CountryLink website (new window), bikes can be taken on board, but reservations are required.  If you’re travelling with a bike, please contact CountryLink (new window) directly.
