Travelling on Melbourne’s trams, trains and buses
Where you can travel on the metropolitan public transport is
determined by the Metcard zone printed immediately after the locations on
your ticket:
·
Dandenong
Z2
means you can travel in Zone 2 only
·
Melbourne
Z1+2
means you can travel in Zones 1 and 2.
If you’re not sure which zone your location is in, please see the metlinkmelbourne.com.au (new window)
website for maps.
If you have a Single ticket, before boarding your metropolitan
service, get it time-stamped by station staff at:
·
a metropolitan
railway station
·
V/Line booking
offices at Southern Cross or Flinders St. Station

Travelling
beyond the Metcard Zone printed on your ticket?
If you
have a Single or Day Return ticket, you cannot extend your journey beyond its
original destination. You will need to buy a Metcard for all zones you
travel in.
However, if you have a V/Line Weekly, Monthly or Date-to-Date ticket and want
to travel beyond the zone printed on your ticket, you can buy a Metcard for the
additional zone only.
e.g. if
you have a V/Line Weekly ticket for Geelong to Werribee (Zone 2) and want to
travel further to Southern Cross Station (Zone 1), you will need to
purchase a Zone 1 Metcard (new window) for the extended
journey.
