Interurban (short distance) & Intercity (long distance)

 

The difference between an Interurban (short distance) and an Intercity (long distance) service is simply the distance the train travels, as explained below:

Interurban services


Trains that operate wholly within the area between Melbourne and

Marshall / Ballarat / Eaglehawk / Seymour and Traralgon stations.

(i.e. within the lighter shaded colours in the diagram above).

 

Intercity services

 

Trains that operate between Melbourne and stations beyond
Marshall / Ballarat / Eaglehawk / Seymour and Traralgon stations.

(i.e. the darker shaded colours in the diagram above).

 

 

Is your service Intercity?

 

You can use the Plan Your Journey tool to determine if your service is Intercity (long distance). 

Enter your journey and look for this symbol in the “Mode” column:
