Did you know it’s cheaper to travel with V/Line at off-peak times? Not only can you save money, but off-peak trains are usually less busy.
To help you to identify off-peak services in our timetables, the peak trains are indicated by a grey shading. If the service is not shaded, it is off-peak. Easy!
Peak services
Are defined as all services scheduled to arrive into Melbourne* before 9AM weekdays and all services leaving Melbourne* between 16:00 and 18:00 weekdays.
* Melbourne is defined as Flinders St, Southern Cross, North Melbourne and Richmond stations.
Tickets valid for travel on peak services include the Peak Single and Peak Day Return, Weekly, Monthly, Date to Date and Zone B Yearly.
Off-peak services
All other services including public holidays and weekends are defined as off-peak.
Concession card holders: Off-peak concession fares are not available at weekends; peak concession fares apply.
Traditionally off-peak services are quieter and you will for the most part secure a seat. Off-peak return fares are cheaper too.
Tickets valid for travel on off-peak services include Off-Peak Single, Off-Peak Day Return, Weekly, Monthly, Date to Date and Zone B Yearly.
If you have an off-peak ticket and need to travel on a peak service, please purchase a peak upgrade ticket from the booking office prior to travelling.
