Concession fares
Cheaper fares are available to certain passengers who meet one of the criteria below.

Children0-3 yearsChildren under 4 years old travel free on public transport in Victoria.  On reserved services, a seat for your child may be reserved without charge.
4-16 yearsEntitled to concession fares on public transport across Victoria.

Students
Student Concession cards may be issued to full-time students pursuing a normal course of study at a primary or secondary school up to Year 12 in Victoria.

Students attending a TAFE college and studying a full-time VCE or Year 11 or 12 are eligible to obtain a Secondary Student Concession Card.

Tertiary students are also entitled to concession fares, if they are eligible for a Victorian Public Transport Concession Card.

Note: a school-issued identification card does not entitle a student to purchase concession fares.

Holders of student concession cards issued in other states/territories are not eligible for concession travel.

Concession cardholders incl. seniorsHolders of a concession card below are eligible for concession fares:

  • Victorian Health Care Card
  • Australian Pensioner Concession Card
  • War Veterans and War Widows
  • Vision Impaired Travel Pass
  • Companion Card
  • Veteran Travel Pass
  • Seniors Card
Victorian Seniors card holders receive two off peak free travel vouchers each year for travel on V/Line and metropolitan services. In 2011 Regional Seniors card holders also received an additional two off peak free travel vouchers bringing their total to four vouchers for the year.

Concession travel at weekendsPlease note that off-peak concession fares are not available at weekends (peak concession fares apply).

Exception: if a weekend day falls on a Victorian public holiday.
