e-tickets are not available
Much as we’d love to, we can’t offer e-tickets similar to airlines.

You must travel with a valid ticket, printed on secure, V/Line ticket paper (unless travelling wholly within metropolitan Melbourne Zones 1 + 2, when you can use a Metcard or myki).

At the moment, the Government is focused on implementing Victoria's new smartcard ticketing system - myki. As this will replace the current ticketing system, it’s not financially viable for us to temporarily introduce e-ticket scanning devices at all stations and on board.

Also, as your V/Line ticket has included Metropolitan travel, we'd need to have validation facilities at all metropolitan train stations, and on board all trams and buses.

We’re aware some rail operators offer this service (e.g. CountryLink), but their services are fully reserved (and have a passenger manifest) and their tickets do not then allow you to travel on other forms of transport.

Once myki is operational, we will work with the Transport Ticketing Authority to determine if e-tickets will be available at some point in the future.  In the meantime, we're sorry for any disappointment caused.
