Don a hard hat and miner’s lamp, descend 61 metres
beneath the surface of Bendigo and be guided through the honeycomb of tunnels
where almost one ton of gold was unearthed.
With only the light on your cap to light the path you will discover what
conditions as a miner were really like during the harsh gold rush era.
Extra activities are available during school holidays.
Special V/Line Offers
With a V/Line ticket you’ll receive one free
child entry for every full paying adult on a Mine Experience Tour.
Why not make a day of it in Bendigo this winter? Your V/Line
ticket also gives you discounts at the Discovery Centre and the Talking Tram.
We
recommend travelling during off-peak times – there will be
more seats and it’s cheaper than travelling at peak times.
Getting there
Bendigo is approximately 2 hours by train from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station.
Along the way, you can take in the scenery of Melbourne’s outskirts,
Victorian towns and great country vistas.
The Central Deborah Gold Mine is located on
the corner of High and Violet St, Bendigo, about 600m south of Alexandra
Fountain on Pall Mall. It takes 10-15 minutes to walk to Alexandra Fountain
from Bendigo Station. From the fountain, you can either keep walking 600m
south to the gold mine, or catch the talking tram to the end of the line.
Remember, your V/Line ticket also includes free travel on the Bendigo Transit
Service, if you decide to explore Bendigo while you’re there. If you’re
travelling from a metropolitan station, you’ll also get included travel on
trams, trains and buses. See V/Line ticket is also a Metcard
for more details.
