V/Line’s
daily connecting service to Sovereign Hill
In conjunction with Sovereign Hill, V/Line operates a daily
connecting service called the Goldrush Special.
The Goldrush
Special is a daily train service between Southern Cross Station and
Ballarat Station, connecting with a coach transfer between Ballarat
Station and Sovereign Hill. No special V/Line ticket is required - just
purchase the applicable V/Line fare for your journey.
Travelling

Catching
V/Line there is easier and cheaper than you might think

– that’s how little it costs for 2 adults and up to 4 children travelling from Melbourne to Ballarat and back during off peak times, including
weekends.

Peak services can be busy, so we encourage families to travel at
off peak times, if possible.
Trains
between Ballarat and Melbourne run frequently (Timetables) and a one-way trip takes approximately 76
minutes.
If
your journey begins or ends in metropolitan Melbourne, pre-purchase your V/Line ticket. On
the day, you can use it to travel on Melbourne metropolitan public transport
from your front door all the way to your arrival station at no extra
cost. In addition, your valid V/Line ticket is also valid for travel on
Ballarat’s local bus network.

Sovereign
Hill Entry
On arrival
at Sovereign Hill customers should present their V/Line ticket (valid for
travel that day) to get:

a 10%
discount on the entry price to Sovereign Hill and
·
a free Cobb
& Co Coach ride, normally $4.50 per adult.
Notes:
The discount only applies to tickets purchased on arrival at Sovereign Hill.

Travelling
to Sovereign Hill outside of Goldrush Special times
Even if
the Goldrush Special times don’t suit you, it’s easy to get to Sovereign Hill.
Catch a V/Line train to Ballarat Station and from there take the number 9 bus.
Alternatively, a taxi from the station to Sovereign Hill costs around $10-12.
Sovereign
Hill is open 10am to 5pm every day except Christmas Day.
Peak services can be busy, so we encourage families to travel at
off peak times, if possible.
