It’s cheaper than you think!
V/Line offers great fares for families travelling to Melbourne – below are a few examples of off peak return fares for 2 adults and
4 kids:

Free
travel on trams, trains and buses
Your
V/Line ticket is also a Metcard.
This means you can use your ticket to travel on metropolitan Melbourne trams, trains and buses at no extra cost. See Your V/Line ticket is also a Metcard for conditions.
Please note: since peak times are busy, we encourage
families to travel in off peak times if possible.
Transport
in Melbourne
Southern Cross Station (formerly Spencer Street
Station) is V/Line’s ‘hub’ station. All V/Line trains and many coach services
depart from or arrive here.
Flinders
Street Station is the main hub station of metropolitan train operator Metro. (Note:
only V/Line trains to/from Traralgon, Sale and Bairnsdale travel via Flinders
Street - however, it’s a 5 minute trip on a Metro service to get from
Southern Cross to Flinders Street.)

Arriving at Southern Cross station
Location:
Spencer Street, between Collins and Bourke Streets, in the south west end of
the CBD.
Facilities:
Disabled access, public telephone, accessible toilets, baby change, food,
Travellers Aid centre for travellers with special needs (open daily
7am-11pm), lost property and luggage check-in services.
Local transport
Taxis,
trams and suburban train services arrive and depart at the station. Remember
you can use your V/Line ticket on Melbourne’s trams, trains and buses at no
extra cost.
