SaleSale is the gateway to east Gippsland. It offers something for everyone, from arts and culture to beautiful natural parks, and for those keen to enjoy a delicious meal, fresh seafood.

The old port is a popular place for cafes and restaurants, offering couples the perfect place to dine and watch the sun set over the distant ocean.

Wander through the local shops and visit one of the many art galleries offering an exciting range of artworks from local artists.

For sailing enthusiasts, the Labour Day holiday in March sees the town come alive with the opening of the Marley Point Overnight Yacht Race – the longest overnight inland yacht race in the world.

The Sale Cup, held every October, is one of the highlights of the country racing calendar. The Cup traces its origin from 1842 and has been coined as a training ground for future racehorse champions. In fact, Makybe Diva , the only horse to win the Melbourne Cup three times in its 150 year history, learnt her trade in Sale.

If you’re a little nostalgic, then it is worth taking the short walk out of town to see the Sale Swing Bridge which is the last remaining Swing Bridge in the world.

Getting there: From Southern Cross station, catch the Bairnsdale train on the Gippsland line to Sale station. The journey takes two hours and fifteen minutes.

V/Line also offers bus services linking Sale with other towns around Victoria.

If you’re travelling from a metropolitan station, you’ll also get free travel on trams, trains and buses. For more information see included metropolitan travel.
