KynetonVisit Kyneton for a regional experience that appeals to your eyes and tastebuds. Piper Street, in the town centre, offers a great mix of upmarket dining, galleries and antique shops.

One of Victoria’s gold rush towns, Kyneton offers the opportunity to wander through nineteenth century granite streets lined with bluestone architecture. Explore the local history at the Kyneton Museum or simply meander through the local antique shops and galleries.

Local shops also offer seasonal local bounty and all manner of preserves for you to take home. Make sure you pick up a bottle of Kyneton Olive Oil.

If you are an outdoors enthusiast, make sure you visit the historic botanic gardens.

Getting there
Kyneton is approximately an hour's train trip from Melbourne’s Southern Cross Station.

Your V/Line ticket is valid for travel on the bus that connects the station to the town centre at no extra cost. If you’re travelling from a metropolitan station, you’ll also get free travel on trams, trains and buses. For more information see included metropolitan travel.

Try this weekend itinerarySaturdayA visit to Kyneton is not complete without exploring bustling Piper Street. Your first task will be to decide where to have lunch – there is plenty of choice, so this might take a while.

After you have indulged, go for a wander and explore the shops. There is something for everyone with a great collection of antique dealers and other eclectic shops.

Make sure you pick up some local produce and take a piece of Kyneton home with you.

To top off a perfect day, book in for dinner at one of Kyneton’s “hatted” restaurants: Annie Smither’s Bistrot or the Royal George Hotel.

SundayStart the day with a leisurely walk through the Botanic Gardens, situated between the town centre and the station. Why not take a picnic?

Spend your afternoon browsing the local galleries and museums for a little culture. Finish with afternoon tea at a local café before you hop back on the train for some rest.
