Victorian Goldfields Railway (Castlemaine - Maldon)Be transported back in time with the Victorian Goldfields Railway and enjoy a true heritage experience on board the steam train from Castlemaine to picturesque Maldon.
Travelling in authentic wooden carriages to the historic township of Maldon, you’ll be forgiven for thinking it’s the early 1900s. Maldon itself is best explored on foot, with cafes and shops aplenty.
The steam train generally operates on Wednesdays and Sundays, but there are often additional services during school holidays.
Getting thereStart your journey by jumping on a V/Line train to Castlemaine, the trip takes around 90 minutes from Melbourne. From here, make your way to platform three from where the steam train departs.
If you’re travelling from a metropolitan station, you’ll also get free travel on trams, trains and buses. For more information see included metropolitan travel.
Please note: V/Line tickets cannot be used on the Victorian Goldfields Railway.
Tip: Travelling on V/Line during off-peak times is more convenient and cheaper!
