Sovereign Hill and Goldrush Special (Ballarat)
Pan for gold, ride in horse-drawn carriages or descend into a real goldmine. Ballarat’s Sovereign Hill is an amazing recreation of an 1850’s goldrush town. Also, make sure to check out the spectacular sound and light show on the Eureka Rebellion called “Blood at the Southern Cross”.
In conjunction with Sovereign Hill, V/Line operates a daily connecting service called the Goldrush Special.
Special V/Line offerWith a V/Line ticket you’ll receive a 10% discount on the entry price to Sovereign Hill and a free Cobb & Co Coach ride when you travel on the Goldrush Special.
Note: The discount only applies to tickets purchased on arrival at Sovereign Hill. Discount not applicable to groups of more than 20 people - see group bookings. Your V/Line ticket is valid for travel on the Ballarat town buses at no extra cost.
If you’re travelling from a metropolitan station, you’ll also get free travel on trams, trains and buses. For more information see included metropolitan travel.
Tip: Travelling on V/Line during off-peak times is more convenient and cheaper!
Getting thereThe Goldrush Special is a daily train service between Southern Cross Station and Ballarat Station, connecting with a coach transfer between Ballarat Station and Sovereign Hill. When you arrive at Ballarat station, follow the signs to the coach bay where Sovereign Hill's transfer coach will be waiting. If you have mobility issues or are in wheelchair, please contact Sovereign Hill prior to travelling on (03) 5337 1100.
The return transfer coach departs from Sovereign Hill at 3:30pm on weekdays and 3:40pm on weekends. Your driver will let you know where to wait to be picked up.
No special V/Line ticket is required - just purchase the applicable V/Line fare for your journey.

Travelling outside Goldrush Special timesEven if the Goldrush Special times don’t suit you, it’s easy to get to Sovereign Hill. Catch a V/Line train to Ballarat Station and from there take the number 9 bus.
