UCI Championship services announced

More than 22,000 additional V/Line seats are now on sale for people wanting to attend the 2010 UCI Road World Championships cycling event in Geelong on 2-3 October.

The elite women will take to a Geelong city circuit on Saturday 2 October, and on the Sunday the elite men will depart Melbourne, cycle to Geelong and complete 11 laps of a circuit.

V/Line will operate 13 special express trains on Saturday, offering a train frequency of 20 minutes during peak event times.  On Sunday 3 October, 42 special express trains to / from Geelong will run, with trains leaving every 10 minutes during peak event times.

Performance for July 2010

Performance Results

  • 93.5% of trains were on time to the metropolitan boundary at Werribee before dropping to 78.6% on time. Overall punctuality was 83.8% for July.
  • Of 1380 scheduled trains, 33 were cancelled.
  • Of 1347 measured trains, 1129 were on-time. The minimum punctuality target of 92% was not met. Compensation is available to periodical ticket holders.

·   An average 310 trains run to and from Geelong each week (132 more than any other regional town).

·   Patronage has grown 83.6% over the past four years to 3.38 million passenger trips per year – a new record.

·   A peak one-way ticket Melbourne to Geelong costs $9.20, but if you travel regularly, consider buying a date-to-date ticket for $50.30 per week (just $5.03 each way).
