VLocity trains are the newest addition to V/Line's fleet.
First introduced into service in December 2005, with new carriages joining the fleet most months until September 2011, VLocity trains commonly provide commuter services on the Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong and Gippsland lines. In September 2011, 134 VLocity carriages were in service.
Fitted with large windows and wide seats the VLocity provides a smooth comfortable ride and operates at speeds up to 160 km/h.
Some features include:
A passenger information system that displays the next stop
Wide (2+2) seating with adjustable armrests for up to 76 people in each VLocity car
New featuresThe latest three-carriage VLocities, introduced from mid 2010 to late 2012, are coloured in the red and purple V/Line brand on unit's exterior.
Like all VLocity carriages added to the fleet since 2009, some chairs feature fold-down tables which are popular with commuters who use their laptops to work on the train.
New high-intensity discharge lights have also been fitted to the front of the train to improve visibility and allow motorists to better see approaching trains at level crossings. The lights are so bright their use is restricted to regional areas.
