Sprinters are high speed diesel railcars.
Introduced into service between 1993 and 1995 there are 21 Sprinters in operation on V/Line commuter services.
With an operating speed of up to 130km/h and the capability of operating as a single carriage or as multiple units with up to seven other Sprinters, they are an invaluable resource to our peak hour service timetable.
Sprinter trains feature:
- Large double glazed windows
- Air-conditioning and heating systems
- Luggage storage areas
- Toilets
- Drinking fountains
- Carpeted floors
- Padded seats (3+2 and 2+2 configurations) with armrests to ensure a relaxing and comfortable journey for up to 89 people per Sprinter
- All Sprinters have wheelchair access
Refurbishment program
In 2007 a $13 million program began to refurbish the V/Line Sprinter and Locomotive-hauled carriage fleet.
By late 2010 all 21 Sprinters in the V/Line fleet had been refurbished with new livery, seat covers and carpet.
