Our expanding fleet

Following unprecedented patronage growth after the initial delivery of 40 two-car VLocity trains in 2005, the fleet was expanded to convert 22 of these into three-car VLocities. By the end of June 2010, there were 102 VLocity carriages in operation delivered at the rate of an average of one per month.

In September 2011 Bombardier finished its work to bring more trains to V/Line. The next phase of construction – an order for 32 more carriages (10 three-car VLocity carriages and one two-car) from mid-2010 has now been delivered..

There is now a total of 134 VLocity carriage units in service.

The completion of the VLocity train order means 9784 physical seats will have been added to the network since 2005.

The extra seats and carriages not only give added capacity to peak and off-peak services, but from August 2010, they allowed us to retire one of our oldest carriage sets. The S-Set, a five-carriage unit, was one of the oldest in the V/Line fleet, with some of the cars between 50 and 60 years old. It is now in storage.
