Hopetoun Netballers are set for a great 2012 season after receiving a $2000 equipment boost thanks to V/Line.
Hopetoun Netball Club was one of 21 clubs, schools and groups across Victoria who participated in the V/Line Life Training program in 2011. The new equipment came after the team won the V/Line Life Training Competition which sort to identify young Victorians who took the skills gained in the program to identify their own life goals.
The young netballers were awarded the coveted prize after their inspiring entry on how the program helped them work towards winning the league Premiership.
"V/Line Life Training was a great program, and great timing for us as a team. It encouraged us to think about how we could achieve our personal goals and that through supporting each other we can be the best we can be," stated Kezia Hallam, Hopetoun netballer.
The program is a community youth initiative developed by V/Line and a number of key partners which educates teenagers and their families on important social and health topics including body image, self-esteem, depression, drugs and binge drinking . Led by current Australian netballer Renae Hallinan and ex-AFL star Nathan Thompson, the program provides youth in Victoria with the valuable skills and knowledge required to make informed life choices.
"It's really wonderful to be part of the V/Line Life Training program," Hallinan said. "It is a fantastic initiative that enables me to reach out to Victoria’s young women, talk to them about body image and self-esteem, and provide them with a direction in life."
V/Line CEO Rob Barnett said the Hopetoun Netball Club was a shining example of how to use the Life Training Program to get top results.
"As the major public transport operator in regional Victoria we have a very strong connection with local communities across Victoria," Mr Barnett said.
"The win for the Hopetoun Netball club shows the skills learnt in the program are transferable and can be used on an individual or team level. These young women are an inspiration to all young regional Victorians."
In its fifth year, the V/Line Life Training program continues to inspire communities across Victoria. The program was recently recognised by the Australian Marketing Institute, winning the Corporate Social Responsibility Award.
